How much does a fractional sales leader cost?
By the partners at Shefa Atelier ·
The short answer
There is no single market rate. Cost depends on how much time you need, how senior the person is, and whether they advise or also manage your team. For reference, our own Private Growth Partnership is $5,000 per month, with an initial three-month engagement, and our Revenue Growth Diagnostic is $995 one-time.
What actually drives the price
“Fractional sales leader” covers a wide range of arrangements, so quotes can vary a great deal. Before comparing prices, compare what is included.
- Time commitment — a few strategy calls a month is very different from several days a week inside the business.
- Role — advising the owner on strategy is different from directly managing a sales team, hiring and running meetings.
- Experience — someone who has led sales in your industry brings context a generalist may not.
- Structure — monthly retainers, hourly or day rates, and performance-linked fees each shift cost and risk differently.
- Scope boundaries — whether training, recruiting, systems setup or reporting are included or billed separately.
What to compare it against
The fair comparison is usually not another consultant’s fee, but the alternative you are actually considering: the owner continuing to carry sales alone, promoting someone internally, or hiring a full-time sales leader.
A full-time hire involves salary, benefits, recruiting time and a period before the person is fully effective. A fractional arrangement trades daily presence for senior judgment at a lower time commitment. Neither is right for every business.
How our engagements are priced
Our Private Growth Partnership is $5,000 per month, starting with a three-month engagement. It includes two private 60-minute strategy calls each month, a monthly priorities and KPI review, sales conversion and retention recommendations, and limited asynchronous support.
Owners who want an experienced outside view first can start with the Revenue Growth Diagnostic at $995 one-time: a pre-session questionnaire, one 60-minute strategy session, a written summary of the top three growth opportunities and a prioritized 30-day plan.
Both are advisory engagements. We do not manage advertising, produce content or take on full operational execution, and we do not promise any particular financial result.
Questions to ask before you sign
- How many hours or calls per month are included, and what happens if I need more?
- Will you advise me, or also manage my team directly?
- What will we measure, and how often will we review it?
- What is the minimum commitment, and how do we end the engagement?
- What experience do you have in businesses like mine?
