Why aren't my med spa consultations turning into bookings?

The short answer
Consultations usually fail at the end, not the beginning: no clear plan, price before value, no booked next step and no follow-up owner. Each of these is a process and training issue, which means each can be fixed.
What we learned training consult teams
Our co-founder Amber Foster has spent years in sales and training sales teams in the aesthetics industry, where average client tickets were $10,000 to $20,000. At that price, the difference between a good and a great consultation is very visible in revenue.
The five most common leaks
- The consult ends with “let us know” — instead of a specific plan, a specific first date and a direct question about booking.
- Price arrives before the plan — a number heard before the client understands the outcome sounds like a cost, not an investment.
- Nobody owns follow-up — consultations that don't book need one named person, a schedule and a written script.
- Providers sell alone — many excellent injectors are uncomfortable discussing money; a trained coordinator can handle plan, financing and booking.
- No one tracks consult-to-booking rate — per provider and per coordinator, it is the clearest single sales number a practice has.
A simple consultation structure
Listen first and repeat the client's goal back in their words. Recommend one plan, not three. Explain what results to expect and over what time. Present the investment once, calmly, with financing if you offer it. Then ask: “Shall we get your first session on the calendar?”
Practice it. Role-play is uncomfortable, and it is also the fastest way teams improve.
Measure for four weeks
Track every consultation for a month: who ran it, what was recommended, whether it booked on the day, and what happened in follow-up. Patterns show up quickly and tell you exactly where to train.
